Wizards Report January 18

January 22, 2013
The smiles were back at Wizards’ practice Thursday in Denver ahead of tonight’s game against the Nuggets. While the mood of the work out was positive, the pain of Wednesday’s one-point loss to the Kings in Sacramento still lingered around the team.

"Nothing against Sacramento, but we felt like we gave them that game," said  Bradley Beal.  "There were bad possessions on offense down the stretch and we allowed easy layups. We have to be better at closing games."

The game will mark the return of  Nene to the city where he played for ten years.  Nene is still pictured with other select Nuggets in the halls of Pepsi Center and tonight likely will receive a warm reception.  Nene came to the Wizards last March in the deal that sent  Javale McGee to the Nuggets

Here is today's  Wizards Report:

LISTEN: Wizards Report January 18

The Wizards are coming off their second consecutive 32-assists performance.   John Wall recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 assists.  Nene and Beal each added 6 assists.

Denver Nuggets:

The Nuggets play at altitude and with an attitude that make a difference in the mile high city. With a high octane up-tempo offense the Nuggets are able to wear out opponents with their athleticism. At home the Nuggets are 15-2.

The Nuggets lost on Wednesday to Oklahoma City, but have nine of their last twelve games including victories over the Clippers, Warriors and the Lakers twice.

It is hard  to match their energy for 48 mins: one of the premier benches in the NBA ( JaVale McGee, Corey Brewer, Anthony Randolph, Andre Miller, Wilson Chandler).

Bench is ranked 6 th in PPG (38.4), 10 th in Reb (15.5), 6 th in Assists (8.2)

Biggest Surprise of 2012-2013: SF/PF  Kenneth Faried: 12.3 PPG, 10.0 RPG. He has 4 double doubles in his last 7 games.  Faried is a possible All Star reserve.

Coach  George Karl recently expressed frustration regarding the team’s choice in shot selection: lots of long twos, and a very low 3-pt shooting percentage.

Karl wants the team to attack the basket more in order to get more free throw attempts.
