Wizards start trip with a stumble in Sacramento

March 19, 2014

The Wizards had their chances. Missed free throws and rebounds intervened and the Wizards ended up losing to the Kings 117-111 in overtime in the first game of a four-game road trip.

Late drama

Isaiah Thomas had a triple double with 24 points, 10 assist and 11 rebounds and helped force the overtime with two chances beyond the arc.

The play that really hurt

But the Wizards were not without fight

Trevor Ariza's incredible shot clock beater

Drew Gooden:

“To turn it around and go up 11 points and then give that game away. You’ve got to credit Sacramento for making plays too. They made plays. I just think down the stretch we kind of started playing on our heels and you know they kept guarding the same play over and over again. It kind of played into their lap down the stretch.”

Marcin Gortat:

“We’ve got to execute. We’ve got to make free throws and we’ve got to stop. We’ve got to stop. We’ve got one guy scoring two times in a row then we’ve got another guy stepping in and scoring three or four times in a row. We can’t stop them. You can’t win basketball games if you’re giving up bucket after bucket. You can’t outscore a team like that. You’ve just got to play better in clutch time and at the end of the day we get punished. We get punished for being cocky. We get punished for being too confident. We’ve got to pay the price now.”
