With playoffs the goal, help is on the way.

October 26, 2013

Welcome, Marcin Gortat. We will miss Emeka Okafor.  In his time here in Washington  Okafor was a joy to work with and just be around. Okafor's leadership was a factor in the Wizards recovering  from last year's bad start. On the floor, Okafor contributed in so many ways and was an anchor on a defense that finished 8th in the NBA last season.

But Okafor is hurt and his timetable for a return was never certain. The Wizards needed to do something.  In a deal involving other players, Okafor was traded to the Phoenix Suns for center Marcin Gortat. The Suns also receive a protected first round draft pick in 2014.

Dave and Glenn, move had to be made.

We watched Gortat go from a project in Orlando, with Magic assistant Patrick Ewing providing guidance, to an established veteran in the NBA. In seven seasons Gortat has averaged 8.6 points and 6.9 rebounds and last year his numbers were 11.1 points and 8.5 rebounds.
